“…for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving…knowledge and discretion to the young–let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance… The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge…” Proverbs 1: 2-5,7a

Knollbrook is a place to GROW in God together…

We have exciting plans for this year for our Sunday School program! Rather than the traditional approach of breaking up our congregation to study the Word, we’re instead going to going adopt an inter-generational approach and study as a community, from the youngest to the oldest. We will be using the GROW model where each letter of GROW represents a distinct segment:

  • God’s Word
  • Relationships
  • Obedient Living
  • Worship

The first round of GROW will last 5 weeks with a focus on Daniel 3. Our theme will be “God is with us.”

Class will be stuctured the same each time. We will start with a Large Group activity to pray through our scripture passage and hear the Bible story, split off into the Small Group options and come together again for a brief closing activity. During the Small Group time, there will be different options for people to choose from including things like:

  • Art
  • Drama
  • Reflections
  • Games

Each group is designed to engage in a unique way with the Biblical story presented during the Large Group portion. Most of the group names (Art, Drama, Games, etc.) will be self-explanatory. The Reflections group will allow participants the opportunity to respond to the Biblical story and create Wondering Questions that will be used throughout the remaining GROW segments. Each group will have facilitators available to assist and guide the activities and discussion.

We hope you will be able to join us in this inter-generational journey. We will have a Nursery available for the youngest of our generations (Infant-4 yrs) as well. The official start time for each GROW session is 9:00 but we encourage people to arrive by 8:45 to ensure we are all ready to go at 9:00.

See you Sunday!

God’s Word

We are people of the Word, who value Scripture as the only perfect rule for our lives. We desire to know, understand, and live out the truths of the Bible. Our hope is not simply to make the Scripture come alive, but to make the Scripture come alive in us.

Relationships

Healthy and effective spiritual growth takes place in the context of relationships…both within peer groups and across generations. We encourage people to be in discipling/mentoring relationships that nurture growth, both in the home and in the wider community.

Obedient Living

We believe that discipleship to Jesus implies radical obedience to all of his teachings. Such obedience, together with the Spirit’s work in us, equips us to do kingdom work…giving witness to the good news and serving others in Jesus’ name.

Worship

Knowing that God desires an intimate relationship with us, we are committed to a lifestyle of worship characterized by both individual and corporate expressions of devotion. Our daily worship practices empower us to live an obedient, abundant, and joy-filled life in Christ.

2011 Knollbrook Christmas Music Video

This was our group project this holiday season. We created a music video for Bruce Cockburn’s rendition of “Cry of a Tiny Babe.” Enjoy!

Cry of a Tiny Babe

Mary grows a child without the help of a man
Joseph get upset because he doesn’t understand
Angel comes to Joseph in a powerful dream
Says “God did this and you’re part of his scheme”
Joseph comes to Mary with his hat in his hand
Says “forgive me I thought you’d been with some other man”
She says “what if I had been – but I wasn’t anyway and guess what
I felt the baby kick today”

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever
Redemption rips through the surface of time
In the cry of a tiny babe

The child is born in the fullness of time
Three wise astrologers take note of the signs
Come to pay their respects to the fragile little king
Get pretty close to wrecking everything
‘Cause the governing body of the whole [Holy] land
Is that of Herod, a paranoid man
Who when he hears there’s a baby born King of the Jews
Sends death squads to kill all male children under two
But that same bright angel warns the parents in a dream
And they head out for the border and get away clean

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever
Redemption rips through the surface of time
In the cry of a tiny babe

There are others who know about this miracle birth
The humblest of people catch a glimpse of their worth
For it isn’t to the palace that the Christ child comes
But to shepherds and street people, hookers and bums
And the message is clear if you have ears to hear
That forgiveness is given for your guilt and your fear
It’s a Christmas gift that you don’t have to buy
There’s a future shining in a baby’s eyes

Like a stone on the surface of a still river
Driving the ripples on forever
Redemption rips through the surface of time
In the cry of a tiny babe
